As I scan the pages it's fun to see how this book informed lots of later work, paintings, story characters such as Silvy and Radge. I have included these after the sketch where possible. By this time (2001), I was comfortable in a visual language of journal making, in the way of Eddy Ardizzone, keep everything fast and fresh. Now and then I skip into abstract territory, into plain fantasy and back to the real world. It lays down so many seeds, but you have to nail it while you can because your next book might be full of useless ideas.
